Who is in the NLC network?

The National Leadership Centre brings together a network of Chief Executives of England’s public sector – but who are they, and what do they do?

An infographic showing 1) over 1,000 CEOs, 2) the whole public sector', 3) employing 3.5+ million people, 4) 850 organisations, 5) devolved administration partnerships, 6) supported by NLC and sector partners, 7) bringing networks together

England’s public sector CEO network

Throughout the Public Leaders Report, we talk about the most senior leaders of the public sector. The National Leadership Centre defines its network of senior leaders as a group of over 1,000 people who run around 850 organisations across England who serve the entire country between them.

With more than 3.5 million people working in their teams, these people lead teams across the public sector. They deliver critical services to tens of millions of citizens and businesses across the country, from Cornwall to Northumberland.

Individually, they run Fire and Rescue Services, NHS Trusts, Schools and Colleges, Central Government Departments, Police Services, Housing Trusts, Local Authorities, Arms Length Bodies, the Armed Forces, and Universities.

The 1,000+ people lead similar size organisations, face similar challenges, and must work together to tackle the country’s biggest challenges.

The National Leadership Centre supports the network of over 1,000 people, but we do not do it alone. We partner with our peers in the devolved administrations for a UK-wide approach. And within England, our sector partners and fellow leadership academies work alongside us, share research, and have helped create this report.

If you are a member of this network, the NLC can help you get in touch with and work with your peers. Please contact us with your request for more information.
